The Chicago Cubs and first baseman Carlos Pena today agreed to terms on a one-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Pena began his career with the Rangers -- and hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo -- who made him a first-round pick (10th overall). Pena, 32, has averaged 36 home runs and 102 RBI in each of the last four seasons since becoming a regular starter with the Tampa Bay Rays beginning with the 2007 campaign. An All-Star in 2009, Pena won a Gold Glove in 2008 and a Silver Slugger award in 2007.
