Newport Jazz 1968 included the giants of jazz like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Dizzy Gillespie. Now available for streaming and download are two new sets of hard bop recorded at the 1968 Newport Jazz Festival. A Tal Farlow Quartet performance features some amazing guitar work from their leader, who had an aggressive style and unique technical abilities (thanks, in part, to huge hands); and a short set from the Sonny Criss Quartet features the Charlie Parker disciple in full flight laying down some incendiary work on the alto saxophone.
